What is Intuitive Eating anyway?!

Nowadays we are constantly bombarded with so much information and conflicting opinions about how to eat, what to eat and when to eat. Our internal queues and responses have been clouded by rigid rules we have created for ourselves from all these external influences. Nearly all of us have been on at least one diet of some kind at some stage in our lives which initiates rules, dos & donts and unhealthy boundaries around eating. And sometimes all these boundaries and food rules stick with us long after we have given up on these diets to only leave us with feelings of guilt, shame and disgust associated with food.

Time to say goodbye to diets and unhealthy relationships with food. No more labels, no more ‘bad foods’ or ‘fattening foods’ or ‘good foods’. It’s time to make peace with food and make it a happy and relaxed relationship. Please welcome Intuitive Eating.

We are born with the internal wisdom for eating intuitively. Have you noticed how babies or kids stop when they have had enough or refuse to eat certain foods? That’s no coincidence that is intuitive eating at its best.

Intuitive eating is about reconnecting with ourselves and our bodies and to learn to distinguish between physical and emotional queues. Your health and worth does not change because of the food you eat e.g. I ate a slice of chocolate cake so I am a bad person. They have no connection whatsoever. It’s learning to trust your body and make peace with food and to remove constant thoughts and angst around it. This is a complex process and can take some time to re-programme your brain after years of dieting and food rules. A basic example is ‘eat when you’re hungry and stop when you’re full’. How hard is this to do?! We all find it so hard these days what with distorted portion sizes, 24/7 access to food and constant advertising being pushed in our faces!

Learning to eat intuitively brings a freeing and satisfying way of eating so you can finally leave diets as a thing of the past.
